Wisdom Teeth Presentation
To provide you with a better understanding of wisdom teeth, we have provided the following multimedia presentation. Many common questions pertaining to wisdom teeth are discussed.
What Is An Impacted Tooth?
Although most people develop and grow 32 permanent adult teeth, many times their jaws are too small to accommodate the four wisdom teeth. When inadequate space prevents the teeth from erupting they are called impacted. This indicates their inability to erupt into the proper position for chewing and cleaning.

Types Of Impactions
We will need to see you for a consultation to determine if you will benefit from wisdom tooth removal. A special x-ray of your mouth and jaws (panorex) will be taken to determine if your wisdom teeth are impacted, if there is room for them to erupt, and how difficult it will be to have them removed.
- Soft Tissue Impaction: There is not enough room to allow the gum tissue to retract for adequate cleaning of the tooth.
- Partial Bony Impaction: There is enough space to allow the wisdom tooth to partially erupt. However, the tooth cannot function properly in the chewing process, and creates cleaning problems, among others.
- Complete Bony Impaction: There is NO space for the tooth to erupt. It remains embedded in the jaw bone or if even partially visible requires complex surgical techniques for removal. The impacted wisdom tooth may also be in an unusual position and difficult to remove. This situation can also arise when the shape or size of the jaw bone and other facial structures make removal of this tooth significantly more complex.

Let me tell you the most impressive thing about this doctor! He is so gentle and so good at placing an IV. It only took 1 try and I barely felt it! I was worried of having an IV for my sedation to have my wisdom teeth pulled because I am a "hard stick" it usually take 5-10 tries before they can find a vein. I have had nurses, anesthesiologists, "the best IV starter in the hospital", other surgeons all try to put an IV in and the can never get it started without a huge ordeal! It only took Dr. Feuntes 1 try and it was so smooth and easy. I told him that it was the easiest IV I have ever had and his nurse told me that that is what all of his patients say. Next thing I know I woke up from surgery. Recovery was easy and I was eating normal food that day. I told Dr Fuentes that I was going to pay him to take him with me the next time I needed a blood draw or an IV.

I am the biggest chicken when it comes to going to the dentist. I had the greatest experience having my wisdom teeth taken out!!!. Dr. F was so patient with me and made me feel at ease. Before I knew it he had put me to sleep and I woke up and my wisdom teeth were out. Afterwards was very easy also. I am so glad I listened to all the people who told me to see Dr. F. Thank you Spring Cypress Oral Surgery for making it easy!

Dr. Fuentes pulled my daughter's wisdom teeth last week. I researched and researched the oral surgeons in the Houston area before I decided upon going to Dr. Fuentes. I was absolutely amazed. The office is very well run. I was very nervous about my daughter having her wisdom teeth pulled and when I called his office the first time the lady who answered (Joy) made me feel comfortable. My daughter and I went for the exam appointment and we met Dr. Fuentes. He is the most pleasant, comforting doctor I have ever come across. He made my daughter laugh alot during the appointment and when we left that appointment she even said that she didn't feel nervous about having the procedure anymore. Just like the other reviews say, he has a way of comforting and calming the patient (especially the parents whose baby is about to have surgery.) Surgery day went great and my daughter had a very easy recovery! Dr. Fuentes is truly the best in the business! His entire staff is super friendly and you can tell they love what the do. I will always refer anyone who asks to go to see Dr. F. Thank you for making this nervous momma feel at ease every step of the way! Much appreciation, Allison Harvey

My son had his wisdom teeth taken out by Dr. Fuentes last week. As a mom, I can tell you that the scariest thing to me is for my kids to have surgery. Our dentist directed us to Drr. Fuentes and told us he would take great care of my son. At the first meeting, we fell in love with Dr. Fuentes, he listened to all of my questions and concerns and was so compassionate and had a great since of humor. He got to know us as people not just as a patient . He told me that he promised he would take care of my son just like he would if it was his son. That was all I needed to hear! Surgery went great and my son healed great. I cannot express to you enough what a great man Dr. Fuentes is. I have 3 other kids that may need their wisdom teeth pulled and I will send them all to this office! Thank you for doing such a wonderful job!
